SDRDC PRES. REY ALLEN PIVOTAL MEMBER BRONX & MANHATTAN

HAPPY 400TH BIRTHDAY NYC 2025, 2026

At New York ShoutOut and Happy 400th Birthday NYC 2024, 2025, 2026 (DOT.COM) we are dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories of our community's past. Through our exhibits, events, and educational programs, we strive to connect our visitors with the history that shaped our world.


For several month W. Calvin Anderson, MS. ED. and Rey Allen of SDRDC discussed its programming opportunities to celebrate the 400th milestone of New York City, from the Dutch experience of 1624 to the present (2025) is fleeting amidst NYC and societal complexities.


Southern Diaspora Research and Development Center, Inc. (SDRDC), a non-profit 501C-3 NGO

to the United Nations, have made ready to create a linkage agreement with “New York Shout

Out” online magazine that launched the mega initiative called, “Happy 400th Birthday NYC

2024, 2025, 2026”, to celebrate NYC’s history, boroughs and people.


SDRDC will create cultural events, public art, educational materials and workshops for schools and community groups. 


SDRDC will target NYC history including: 

  

The Bronx

1. Van Cortland House Museum: This historic house museum dates back to 1748

and is the oldest surviving building in the Bronx.

2. Van Cortland Park: This 1,146-acre park is one of the largest in New York City

and features several historic sites, including the Van Cortland House Museum.

3. 39 S Arthur Avenue: This charming street is lined with historic Italian-

American shops and restaurants.

4. Edgar Allan Poe Cottage: This small cottage was the home of Edgar Allan Poe

from 1846 to 1849.

Manhattan

1. The Battery: This historic waterfront area is where the Dutch established New

Amsterdam in 1624.

2. Fraunces Tavern Museum: This museum is located in a historic tavern that dates

back to 1719 and is where George Washington bid farewell to his officers in

1783.

3. St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery: This historic church was built in 1799 and is

one of the oldest churches in New York City.

4. Museum of the American Indian: This museum is located in the historic Custom

House building, which dates back to 1907.

5. The Morris-Jumel Mansion: This historic mansion was built in 1765 and is the

oldest house in Manhattan.

6. The Little Red Lighthouse: This small lighthouse was made famous by a 1941

These are j Manhattan just a few of the many historic sites and landmarks in the Bronx and

7. The High Line: This elevated park is built on an old rail line and features several

historic buildings and landmarks.

8. The Dutch Reform Church: This historic church was built in 1766 and is one of

the oldest churches in New York City.

Other Historic Sites

1. The African Burial Ground National Monument: This historic site is a former

cemetery for African Americans and dates back to the 17th century.

2. The Hispanic Society of America: This museum and library is dedicated to

Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American art and culture.

3. The Old Stone House: This historic house was built in 1699 and is one of the

oldest houses in New York City.

These are just a few of the many historic sites and landmarks in the Bronx and

Manhattan that date back to the 17th century.
